Full-Grain Leather Bookmark with Tassel – Pentecost Red

A full-grain cowhide bookmark with a hand-tied tassel, slim enough to sit flat in a closed book.

Thin enough to close the book on

The problem with most leather bookmarks is thickness. Anything above about 2 mm splays the pages and leaves a permanent ridge in the spine. This one is skived down at the edges so the book still closes flat, which is the only test that matters for something that lives inside a book.

The tassel does a job

It is not decoration. The tassel hangs past the page edge, so you find your place by feel without opening the book and hunting. It is knotted by hand through a punched hole rather than glued into a cap — the failure point on cheaper bookmarks is exactly that glued cap.

Full-grain cowhide, undyed on the reverse

Full-grain is the top layer of the hide with the grain left intact. Left unlined here, so you see the flesh side on the back and the natural grain on the front. Over a year of use the front develops a sheen where your fingers find it and the red deepens toward burgundy.

Pentecost Red

A deep red with a brown base rather than an orange one, which is why it ages toward burgundy instead of turning pink in sunlight. Part of the same colourway family as our Eden Green and Jordan Brown pieces.
