None of this is visible in a product photo. All of it decides whether a piece is still good in five years.
Full-grain, not corrected
The outermost layer of the hide, left intact rather than sanded smooth and coated. It is the densest part, which is why it resists tearing — and why it develops a patina instead of flaking. Corrected grain looks perfect on day one and worse every year after.
Saddle-stitched by hand
Two needles pass through each hole from opposite directions, so the thread locks against itself. A machine lockstitch is faster and unravels from a single break. On the spine of a wallet, that difference decides between three years and ten.
Skived where it overlaps
Four card slots cut from full-thickness hide stack into eight layers at the spine. We thin the leather at every overlap, which is the single reason a loaded wallet still closes flat instead of wedging open.
